OUR HISTORY

Background of the Organization

AL-FALAH AAM UNNAYAN SANGSTHA (AFAUS) is a non-government voluntary development organization that has been working since 1989 to improve the socio-economic conditions of poor and marginalized communities in Bangladesh. The organization is governed by a 22-member General Council (GC), which elects a 7-member Executive Committee (EC) every three years to oversee decision-making and program implementation.

For over 36 years, AFAUS has run need-based programs focusing on socio-economic development, culture, environment, and human rights. It was founded by a group of committed local social workers and continues to engage all stakeholders in its activities.

AFAUS primarily works with disadvantaged groups in rural and urban areas, including landless and homeless people, the unemployed, marginal farmers, small business owners, and other low-income professionals. Its main strategy is to identify, mobilize, and utilize local resources to bring sustainable change.

Mission

To drive sustainable change by empowering poor and marginalized communities in Northern Bangladesh through education, livelihood development, human rights advocacy, and active community participation — ensuring a future of dignity and opportunity for all.
